I've already had people asking me questions heh, i guess the email wasn't very clear. So to clarify, if you're sec1 or sec4, read through the roles and ignore the application form, then open the feedback form and fill it in.

Also, the positions President and Vice-President are only open to sec3s. The rest of the positions can be filled by either sec2s or sec3s.

Guess what, it's only two more days left to SYF!! Aren't you all excited?? Haha you guys should be k. If you're more scared than excited then something's probably wrong.

Anyway, I just wanted to encourage you guys. I know that you guys have been practicing really hard for this upcoming SYF and I'm really proud of you guys for being so persistant and having practices almost everyday.

For many, this is your first ever SYF. And it's probably kinda scary since you guys never had the experience before. When I heard you guys play during the exchange programme sometime back, you all sounded okay. Not fantastic but not that bad either. I haven't been able to go down recently so Idk how much you guys improved (yes i hope you guys improved!) But anyway, the point is that SYF is the main platform for you guys to prove yourselves. To show the school that the MGGE is an awesome CCA and we can play awesome music (despite what people say). So please please just continue to press on, your hard work will definitely pay off!! And do keep in mind that your seniors are behind you in this so play your best on the day of SYF kay! Go MGGE!!<3

hey guys, i don't know how many of you will see this. the date today is 30 march, in other words, we have 27 days to SYF. time check. that can be a lot of time or very little time. i used to think it just meant WE HAVE SO LITTLE TIME! PANIC! CRY! but someone mentioned today that actually, it can be a lot, or at least enough time for us to get to where we want to get. where i want to get. where i hope is the same place for us all.

we have 27 days, to get used to seeing mr shi's conducting, since we've been spoilt rotten by clapping. 27 days to stop rushing, to fix the wrong notes and to pick up speed and to get our triplets sounding like a waterfall. to remember and understand the dynamics. 27 days to feel what the song is supposed to make us feel and MORE, more because we're the ones playing it. and surely that makes a difference to you. this is our song, our arrangement, we're the first ones playing this arrangment you know, does that make you feel like it's special? to you? this is the first time we as an ensemble are going for syf together, this is the hardest and nicest piece we've played. does this make you want to get it right? does it give you shivers, thinking about this piece that is ours?

friends, 27 days is a short enough time to feel so strongly without burning out. to play everyday without getting sick of it. it is also a long enough time to develop feelings, to understand what the piece means and listen and move with the music you are making. 27 days is the time frame that i hope you will give whole heartedly to guitar, to bringing our ensemble higher, to stress over the coming SYF, together.

27 days is the time that i will give. 27 days is the time where i will trust in our instructors, where i will believe in every single one of you, where i will practice to get where i want to be. i will give whatever mr shi asks, because he wants what we want and sometimes more.

hey ensemble. yes i guess this is a more efficient way. the ensemble practice times are as follows!

4 April -- Exchange Programme, in the chapel. early dismissal at 2p.m., be in the chapel by 2.30, with your scores(if you need), your instruments and your stands. Ensemble will end at 6 TAKE NOTE: 6!

6 April-- Normal ensemble prac in the MEP room (unless further notified), from 2.30 to 6, as requested by Mr Shi

7 April-- Sectionals and other stuff, STILL COMPULSORY, ends at 5.30 as of now. Attendance will be taken and only VRs will be accepted. (tuition doesn't count)

11 April -- Ensemble practice in the Chapel, normal time, but ends at 6.

13 April -- Dismissal at 12 noon (meet in the MEP room unless further notified), we will run through as if it is SYF day itself. our practice at RP is from 2 to 3, in our performing attire IF POSSIBLE. Ensemble ends at 6.

15 April-- Prac as an ensemble in the hall from 2.30 to 5.30.

18 April-- Prac as an ensemble in the Chapel, normal time but till 6.

19 April -- * TBC due to curriculum time, may start later than normal.

20 April-- Ensemble Prac in the MEP room unless further notified, until AT LEAST 6.

21 April-- Ensemble Prac, Venue tbc. time should be same as normal ensemble.

25 April-- Ensemble Prac in the hall, till AT LEAST 6.

Hey everyone! it's a little late heh, but here's a post on camp! So, A HUGE THANKS to everyone who came for camp! as we've said in the letter from the comm, it's really been the dream of many guitar committees to have an overnight camp and you guys were a big part of this camp and it's something that will really be in our hearts. you guys made history! yay (:

but more importantly, i hope you guys have taken something from the camp, whether physical things like photos (hahaha, shu kit!) or friendships or lessons, i hope that this camp has benefited you in some way. that one day you will look back and remember the crazy things you did/had to do at camp, the people in your group and how you grew with each other. maybe the RP practice, maybe NIGHT GAMES!, maybe supper. haha, hopefully, the theme.

the theme still surfaces to me once in a while. because the theme is what will remind me to be a blessing to others. (SEC4S! :D) it reminds me that the people around me need support. that only together can we make it through our migratory journey (okay fine, that's more for the geese in a v-formation) but yeah, think in Glee, they sang songs from the musical "Journey" right? yeah, we're taking a journey. for me, mine has been 3+ years already. haha and now is a good time to finally realise that if no one takes over, the three birds at the tips of the V will just faint of exhaustion. it's a good time, anytime, to realise that we need certain things to thrive as an ensemble. and that these things don't just exist. we need passion, musicality etc. and we need each other.

once upon a time, i hope you got shivers when you listened to yourselves play something, main ensemble at least. and you wanted something to happen so badly. this camp is where we wanted you guys to remember that. or feel that. with your ensemble mates, to remember the time or to feel it for the first time. and to want to work together so hard to get it. to be on that same level of committment, same level of devotion and love and yearning for the same thing.

SYF girls, we are so close to SYF now, and we need that re-ignition, so that we can work towards something together.

this camp is also one where we wanted to integrate our new members (YAYYY!) into the ensemble, some of the feedback we got was a bit bad on this side (I'M SO SORRY!) cause RP was totally geared towards the SYF girls. i'm sorry about that! i hope you guys still had fun!

hey everyone :)
i know this round of auditions(26 jan) came as a surprise. it shouldn't have actually, we didn't take what ms karen said seriously regarding the auditions i guess? but i know we ALL shook in our drooping socks.

those of you who got through, great, thank you. continue to practice yeah? those who haven't gone for your first round, this is the time to practice really hard. those of you who didn't get through..some of you didn't practice enough and some of you didn't deserve to fail, but there is hope yet! we have a total of 3 more auditions and most of you now have comments from ms karen regarding what you need to improve on.

don't develop a fear of auditions, let's just take it in our stride, as a reality check for some and as stress conditioning for others. i know ms karen was harsh on some of you and i know it was terrifying to play in front of everyone. but this is our training ground, in front of each other, in front of people who could possibly know the piece better than you. and syf will not be any less nerve wrecking. a lot of you, with practice, can make it. and i want to see that confidence in all of you, confidence that a lot of you deserve to have.. don't sit and quake in your chairs waiting to audition, but do your best from now on and play confidently.

so i look forward to monday, when more of you prove yourselves, cause i know you can, and i hope you know it too.

Hi dears, i hope you've been practicing, our songs are super hard! in case you haven't seen, here's the video of sevilla by the philippino university people. PLEASE PLEASE listen to it with good quality speakers. it sounds really good and that's what we're gonna be okay! (Haha, i learnt something new today!; how to embed a video :D)

i'm not sure if this is the exact arrangement for serenade, doesn't sound exactly the same to me. i'll upload a new one if i find another. (: don't cry shu kit! hahaha (:

oh oh, one last song. it's kinda random but it's a nice song, not guitar but i think only the title is apt, it's "one more time with feeling", kinda like. play small world one more time with feeling so mickey mouse is actually present. hahaha. yeah, playing with feeling is important for us. i'm not completely sure what the song means, about perceptions kind of. :D sorry i'm so random, but yeah, heh.

Journey through MGS Guitar Ensemble

3 and a half years ago, I was forced to pick up guitar as my 2nd instrument. I did not know what to expect out of it all but after these 3 half years, I have come to love the instrument and to enjoy playing in the ensemble.

Being a member, I had to play my best for the ensemble. But being a section leader since 2008 meant that on top of playing my best, I had to be faster in my learning and to help others to play their best. What I brought back from these, was really perseverance and patience. Not giving up when I’m unable to play a certain passage; not letting setbacks affect my mentality.

Moving on to being a committee member, I learnt all about teamwork - working with different people, each playing our different roles to get the ensemble going. Honestly, being the secretary/ librarian was really tiring. But I guess the rewards that I sowed were just as fulfilling, if not more. It was not about the CCA points that I received nor the honour of being a part of the committee, but more of the fact that I had the chance to work with my seniors learning so much things from them, and being able to serve the ensemble in ways I could. MGGE Committee 2008-2009 makes up a really big part of my memories of the ensemble. Having funny committee meetings, retarded inside jokes and actually, just spending time with you guys makes me really happy.

The last year in ensemble, was spent being the president. I know I haven’t been the best president and there are still many improvements to be made to the ensemble, but I really want to thank you all for giving me this chance to grow and for appreciating all that I have done (even though it wasn’t a lot). Being the president wasn’t easy, but I guess it’s the same for any other leadership positions. In the beginning, I took up this role only because the people around me were telling me to. But after assuming the responsibility, I slowly found great joy in leading the ensemble and attempting to bring it to greater heights. Through this experience, I brought back even more with me - love; kindness; responsibility; humility.

MGGE has given me many opportunities to grow not just in my guitar playing skills, but also as a person. It has been a great honour to be able to be the 2nd graduating batch of MGGE, and I’m sure the ensemble will become much better in the years to come.

To my teachers:
Thank you for having been so patient with the ensemble. The ensemble wasn’t easy to handle, but you all still stayed committed to the ensemble, helping us to organize and plan so many events. You guys also constantly encouraged us and gave us inspirational talks to keep us motivated. It has been fabulous being able to have you all as my teachers-in-charge!

To my instructors:
Thank you for imparting so much skills and knowledge to me. From Mr Lim, who taught me the most basics; to Mr Choo, who taught me to be a section leader & conductor; to Mr Chua who led us through SYF; and to Ms Karen & Mr Shi who are still bringing the ensemble to greater heights. You all are really wonderful for without you guys, the ensemble will never be where it is right now!

To my seniors:
Thank you for being such awesome seniors. You guys have made ensemble really enjoyable with all your craziness and high-ness. I still remember the first time you all introduced yourselves, it was super awkward. And having Jade Wee as the other member in my section was ...... (There were only the 2 of us in G4 at the time). But yeah, you guys have done so much for the ensemble as the pioneer batch, and I really love you all for that!

To my batchmates:
Thank you for just being there for me and assisting me whenever I needed help. We’ve been through a lot together, and I’m sure many of you would have the same thoughts that I have regarding the times spent in ensemble. Now that we are out of the ensemble, desperately trying to do well for Os, and subsequently moving on to our separate paths in life, I hope that you will forever remember your times spent in the ensemble!

To my juniors:
Thank you for all you’ve done and all that you are going to do for the ensemble. I actually do have quite a lot to say but I don’t think anyone of you would bother reading through it (haha) so I’m just gonna tell you all to practice hard and do your very best for the ensemble!

MGGE has played a big part of my life in MGS and I'm sure that the memories that I've had in this CCA will be with me through my entire life(:

Hello my dearest juniors!!(;
Prelims just ended today for me so I'm feeling pretty slack. Heheh.
Anw, glad to know you guys are doing fine. Please don't give the sec3s (and the future comm) a headache yeah!

I know some of you are complaining about having practices even through EOYs. I know it's kinda mean (since many of you are hardcore muggers), but for the sake of charity hang on yeah? Besides, it ain't good to study 24/7! Gotta take a break every now and then so treat guitar as a break!(;

Andand, about SYF. Just to let you know, your seniors learnt the songs in 3 - 4 months and we managed to attain silver, so I'm sure you all can do better! It's gonna be kinda stressful, but it'll be fun as well. It's not every day when you have friends supporting you and helping you when you get really tired of the songs cause you're playing it so often(: Ohyes, and please, can everyone aim to get into the SYF ensemble? I'm not sure about now but when I was still in the ensemble, ms karen was saying that she'll only put the good ones in the SYF ensemble (even if theres only 12 people), so can everyone work hard to be the good ones? There'll definitely be some difference since some of you have musical background etc, but do put in your best effort kay! SYF is a really really wonderful and fulfilling experience! (plus the points! heh)

Hi friends!

just a recap of what was said during ensemble today,

we are performing for sounds of hope on 30 Oct, we'll be playing three songs but only two are confirmed, lambada and small world. practice dates include 14, 15, 18, 20, 22 and 27 october. on the 25th we have a technical rehearsal and on the 29th is a full dress rehearsal. attire is likely to be gown.

we also need to prepare for open house on 27 Oct, this one will be quartets so only people who are selected will need to prepare for this. we may be playing God bless the broken road. not confirmed yet. i think those playing for open house(2 quartets) will have an extra practice on the 26th.

you will all need to pay $5 for you know what, we'll be collecting it after the 30th. just get your money ready. thanks :D

also, pass me the stuff for the sec4s by FRIDAY. yep, that should be all. tentatively, practices will stop on the 17th for sec3s and 20th for sec1s and 2s. TENTATIVELY. also, i'll talk to miss ng about having a guitar outing on one of the marking days or at least fun stuff. otherwise you'll all probably skip. D: if you see this, yeah, you rachel yeung. tsktsk.

Hi friends! ;D okay, to the people who went for the SYF 2010 instrumental ensembles presentation II, hope you enjoyed yourselves. mmmm, i just wanted to point out some things that i took note of during the perfomance that i hope you guys noticed..

for all the performances:
they were very tight. like..they knew what they wanted, they knew what they were doing and best of all, they knew what everyone else was doing. and that's really what we should aim for. because i don't think we're there yet. and we only have 6 strings on a guitar! there are 21 on a guzheng! and the guzheng people didn't even have a conductor conducting them! and for the rest of the performances where they had conductors, the students performing all look at the conductor. that's usually the key to performing well, because if everyone can see the conductor and everyone follows the conductor and listens to each other(once again, very evident in the guzheng performance) then chances are we'll know what everyone else is doing too and we'll sound nice. together. that's the whole point of an ensemble isn't it?

for the guitar performance:
in the programme, the write up said DHSGE was formed in 2007, that's the same year MGGE was formed. they took part in SYF for the first time in 2009, same as us once again. and last year, the achieved gold with honours. you know what that means, we can do it too! but you know what, we're not there yet. i hoped you noticed their dynamics. it was a really really wide range. yeah, i know that they had a niibori guitar but still. their tremolo was very even. very. and the sound range for their tremolo is ALSO very large. remember what liz xu and jiaqi were telling us about the range of our sound? that's what they have achieved. and the effect is quite brilliant. lastly their tone was really nice. i believe it comes from practice and nails. :D and like kezia said, this is what we want to be like. and we have from now till syf to get there. common goals remember?

next time come for the concerts :D

Just wanted to say great job for the concert! It may not have been our best and there may have been mistakes here and there but we'll just treat it as an experience yes? Since it's the first concert for many of you anyway :D I'm sure many of you are glad that the concert's over, but do remember that this is not the end (other than the sec4s). You still have at least another 1half more years to go so remember Hebrews 12:1-3 alright!(; GO MGGE! You can do it!(:

Up next I've got a few announcements. Committee positions are open to all sec2s and 3s. Form is uploaded to our gmail account. It'll appear as an email from me so open up the attachment, fill up the form, and send it back to me. It's fine if you wish to print out and hand-write it instead. Just pass it to me at 4M. All forms to be in by this Sunday 17th July 12.00am kay! Sms me if you need the user&pass.

Also, everyone has to pay $2 for the hairband to Alicia (We'll just keep it at $2. Any extras will go to the funds). And for those who got the lapstool, $16 each to Deborah by next week. Thanks!!

2 MORE DAYS!!

hello my dears!

it's two more days to your longest ever performance in the history of MGGE. we've always been small parts of different concerts, but now we're one half on its own! im looking forward to that extending to a full length concert next year? (hopefully!!)

anyway, back to the two more days:) are you excited? concerts always make me excited, cos there's the 'concert high', like how sports people get high after their competitions. i think it's called adrenaline.no. i don't think it is, i KNOW it is:D and how you get to put on make up and look pretty! haha no im kidding. but how everyone freaks out right before you step out on stage and how we try so hard to make everything perfect and then complain and squeal and ramble after the concert about how we messed up and then the teacher/conductor comes in and tells us it was one of our bestest performances ever and how he/she is really proud of us. and suddenly you feel this great sense of achievement, that your hard work for the past few months and the stress and extra practices+sectionals was all worth it. yea. that's why i love concerts:)

ok. now for more serious stuff.im sure you all saw us on wed (including jadewee's tripping down the steps in the audi:p hahahaha) anyway, as much as we'd like to say we were really proud of you guys(i mean girls) and can't wait to see you all on sunday, i won't lie. i believe sincerely, with all my heart, that you girls have an amazing amount of potential that even your ms karen can see.most of us have music backgrounds, so we can sight-read almost everything and anything within a short period of time. but talent does not equal success(maybe sometimes, for some people it does). being able to play a piece and being able to master a piece are two different things. when you perform any piece, you are telling the audience a story.for example, it's a small world: close your eyes, hear the music in your head, and imagine the big mini fair we have every second/third last day of school in mg. or imagine disneyland(if you've been to either). it's a happy little place, kids running around smiling, cotton candy, popcorn!there's happy music playing in the background=it's a small world! try to convey these emotions/stories to the audience. smile when you play the piece. exude happiness:)

after listening in on your rehearsal, i must admit we are genuinely worried.there has to be a basic standard that has to be met for a group to perform. but your playing didn't meet it. you guys were playing at different speeds and looked genuinely lost at some points in time. fear not, for there is still time. you can still practice! i know there are complaints about the lack of organisation in the ensemble.but it's too late to do anything(at the moment). the concert is in 2 days!! just practice your parts till it's perfect. you can do it! and remember, don't blame people for the messy playing. you are ONE ensemble, not a group of 50 different people with different ideas about what should happen in ensem. you produce ONE sound. if your friends can't play well enough, you help them.you don't skip practice and say 'it's not my problem, i can play well!' if your ensem cannot play well, you can't either. if you dont want to accept this, go be a solo performer.

as your seniors, and the pioneer batch of MGGE, we've seen the ensemble grow and multiply, which is good:) we were so amazed to see 4 rows on stage:D but more importantly, the quality of your music needs to improve.we don't want to see you mess up on stage. we want you to feel the same way we did when we had performances last time. nervous, but knowing that the standard has been met.and then happy. and though some of us hate to admit it, strangely proud to be in MGGE. we've had a short history/legacy so far, though not the greatest, it's still worth something. and you can make it even greater. be excited. practice hard and know that your seniors support you all the way!

we've got your backs.so make us proud:)

hope you all enjoyed the 3 - 4 hours worth of games today(: really glad that all of you were so enthusiastic and willing to take part in the games. also, thanks for the honest feedbacks about the ensemble. briefly read through them and thought i'd reply some of your feedbacks here since idk who you are and am unable to speak to you personally.

1. what happened to the SLs?
- actually, i have no idea. i think it just sort of died down 'cause we don't really do sectionals during ensemble anymore so yep.

2. someone added a 'HUH? So our choices still don't really matter?" in response to the "Note" section of the committee 2010-2011 choices
- uhm, actually, if you realised, we did not ask for the ensemble's opinion last year. also, i'd believe that as a part of the committee 2009 - 2010, we know how the committee works and would be able to select more appropriate candidates for committee 2010 - 2011. next, i'm sure that the teachers and instructors already have someone in mind as their ideal candidate. i hope that you'll think of your opportunity to tell us your candidates as a bonus instead of a "should be" thing 'cause we can actually just ignore your opinions. so yes. but also, i'd like to thank all of you as i can tell from your choices that you guys did not just choose the more "popular" people but you all did put in much thought before writing down the names(:

3. "camp should be longer to have more bonding"
- i agree with this wholeheartedly. however, due to the tight schedules of the sec4s (prelims in 8 weeks!!), we are unable to commit as much time to the ensemble. however, we still hope you did bond well during that 3 - 4 hour of games with your fellow ensemble mates ;D

4. "sudden change in parts makes learning very tiring"
- yes i've realised this. don't worry. all the feedback that you guys have given will be compiled and sent to the teachers and together we'll take necessary actions to improve the ensemble(:

5. "excited about the future (syf!)"
- i'm absolutely glad you're excited. it's gonna be an awesome experience so do continue looking forward to it! :b

6. "maybe you could get us to know everyone's name, instead of just our small group?"
- i'm not really sure what you mean by this. but i'll try explaining it from what i understand. if it doesn't answer your questions, do clarify it on the tagboard(: so uhm, i know you guys probably would prefer if you had the chance to know everyone in the ensemble. but do also understand that there are people who are new and it'd be hard for them to remember everyone's name. besides, you all would have much more opportunities to see each other so maybe you can approach someone for their name each lesson and slowly learn everyone's names(:

7. "The previous year's committee was better"
- haha i guess i'm kinda honoured since i'm also a part of the committee last year. but anw, i do hope you'll understand that each committee has it's own strengths and weaknesses. the previous committee may have worked better because we were together for 1half years (start of 2008 - mid 2009) so we probably had more chemistry. however, this year's committee has been working hard too so i do hope that you will stop comparing since it's all in the past anw(:

Helloooo! Hope CTs have been going well for y'all. Sec4s are still having midyears so we're still pretty stressed up ):

Anw, CCA resumes next monday 17/5 for Sec1-3s. Please do get your scores and practice hard now that exams are over. Also, sec4s won't be around so you'll be on your own! I think I've mentioned this before but it doesn't hurt to mention it again... You've only got about 10 more practices till the concert with ROCs, June hols and whatnots coming up. So unless you want extra lessons, PRACTICE!!

Sec4s, you will resume on 24/5, the week after midyears. However, please do not slack 'cause we'll be the only batch around during that week with the sec1-3s away at ROCs. We've got to show that we're good alright, and that we're not some random girls that can be pushed aside just 'cause we're not taking part in SYF next year. However, do study hard at the same time(:

Last thing. The camp is changed to a day camp instead. Reason being Sec4s will be having SS lecture the next day so it'd be pretty tiring for us plus some of you don't like the idea of staying overnight in school. So next time, perhaps!

So as of now, this is the holiday practice schedule:
1. 1st June Tuesday Morning - Late afternoon

CA2 is coming and therefore CCA will be suspended till 17th May. Sec4s resume on 19th May since your last paper is on the 18th. However, since your papers are from 5th - 11th May, please do practice on your own or within your sections after your exams. If you were to count, we have slightly less than 15 sessions left till the concert. So unless you guys want to have extra practices, please do practice hard so that the ensemble can move together as one(;

1. Ensemble Fees
All ensemble fees are to be paid to JiaQi 4M by 12/03 Friday. Total amount is $360 where half of it can be paid through edusave. Any remaining amount is to be paid by cash/ cheque.

2. Holiday Practices
17/03 Wednesday 1.30 - 5pm
19/03 Friday 9 - 12pm, 1 - 4.30pm
Lunch will be provided on Friday's practice. Even if you are not performing for the concert, you still have to attend the practices and the concert itself as backstage/ audience. If you are not coming for ensemble, do remember to provide a letter/ mc!

3. Concert
Those playing for the concert are to check the notice board for the current seating arrangement. Note that it is subject to changes as the namelist is not finalised. Re-typed scores will also be given out only on 17/03 Wednesday.

4. Audition Round 2
A 2nd round of auditions will be conducted on 17/03 Wednesday. If you are not chosen, this is your chance to get in. And similarly, even if you are chosen, you may be taken out. So please do continue to practice hard.

5. $4
All attending practice on 19/03 Friday are to pay Tracey 4R $4 for lunch by 12/03 Friday. If you are bringing your own food then it is alright. Note that you will NOT be allowed to leave school as we need to board the bus at 1pm sharp.

School Reopen

Hey all! Hope y'all are coping well. First week of school has ended and I personally feel really really happy cos I've been pretty stressed and life has been rather hectic with CCA Registration and all that evaluation tests. But, TGIF! :D

Anyway, here are some things to take note:
1. CCA resumes next monday, 11th January 2010. Ensemble timings have been announced and no one should be late for ensemble anymore unless there are valid reasons. You should also inform a teacher + a comm member if you know that you're gonna be late/ unable to attend ensemble.

2. We're going to be really strict on school rules from now on. So, no more eating/ drinking sweet drinks during ensemble. Do not even bring them into the MEP room. Also, no usage of phones. Phones should be kept in your lockers. Alternatively, you can leave them near the visualiser of the MEP room, switched offed, so we can be sure you are not using your phone and you don't have to climb the stairs just to get your phone after ensemble. [Do not leave it outside the MEP room in your bag in case of thefts yeah.] Lastly, school attire, and this includes your basic grooming - hair, uniform, socks. If any of these rules are broken, I'm going to get the prefects to book you straight away...

3. Practice your guitars! Just some warning, the new instructors are not going to be as nice as Mr Chua/ Mr Lim and they will scold you if you are unable to play a certain section of your piece. So, please start practicing your guitars if you haven't been doing so!

4. Lastly, be nice to your ensemble mates! It's gonna be a tough year ahead with the sec1s learning to cope with secondary school environment, sec2s having streaming at the end of the year, sec3s trying to get used to the new workload, and sec4s having O levels coming up. So yeah, please do support one another through the year and welcome your juniors as they join us! :D

Upcoming practice would be on Monday 2.30pm at the MEP Rooms. If you did not receive the training schedule, do look for Mdm Salinah asap.

Next, 'Sounds of Hope' concert is coming up next Saturday and Sunday. I know many of you are wondering why we have to sell the tickets, just take it that it's for charity(: So yes, everyone has to sell at least 3 tickets [$20 each]. And if you don't sell it, you have to buy them yourselves. For the beginners, please do take time to attend the concert and to support your seniors :D

Sec4 Farewell. For those who have not paid for Sec4 Farewell, please pay Tracey of Sec3R [4th level] before school ends. For those who attended, you will have to pay $3 [inclusive of food and present]. For those who did not attend, you still have to pay $2 for the present. today was sec4 farewell!
unfortunately, we are leaving.and unfortunately, some of us didn't come.

as we looked back from our sec1 days when we were not yet a cca, the crazy times we had together, we can't help but realise that this is the end.
(ohmy.i sound poetic!)

ok anyway, i must admit i've had the most awesome and toughest times of my life in guitar. i've grown from the silly kid you see in jadewee's video to a more mature(comparatively) person.
i've learnt that sometimes you've got to be self-sacrificial, and sometimes you should just stand for your rights.guitar has shaped my life, it has taught me resilience and passion.yes. as the first(not very official) president, i made mistakes, but yea, i learnt a lot from those days.and especially for jadewee, i've seen her change so much i can't help but feel proud of her.(forever your ahma jadey!)it's an honour, really, to be part of the pioneer graduating batch.you should have seen us in sec1.i don't think mr choo thought we could have made it as an ensemble(hahahaha)from fake spiders and cockroaches to mr choo thinking we were all going to fail our grade 1 exam.or barely pass.. we only had 9 girls then!(just like our how our school strated!)

then on to sec2, when the current sec3s joined us.over 20 members!(sorry.i don't remember numbers very well..)i still remember how mr choo stared in disbelief when we voted me president.and then how christina dissed me when i introduced myself as president.(don't worry dear! i totally forgave you!) dear christina has become so much nicer!hahaha. then we had our first concert.so exciting!

then sec3.stuck at 20plus members.practice till 6.30 every tues? i'd get home at like 7.30 plus due to the stupid traffic jams at that time..BUT.sec3 was a really eventful year.we played at the acjc glissando concert, some of us played at victoria concert hall for the tpjc concert.and our joint concert with handbells and strings.and the acjc christmas concert.i miss performing..

then this year. we suddenly exploded to over 50 members!then SYF! it was an amazing experience, thank you mr chua and mr lim for teaching us, and mr choo for the emails(you didnt forget us!)then due to h1n1 all our performances got cancelled.i hear you guys are performing at some charity concert in october?all the best!i really thank God for the blessings and favour He has shown to us.really.we have grown so much as an ensemble, all glory to God:)

and that was just a short summary of my four years of guitar-ing:) after the farewell, jade wee and i sat there and reminisced our experiences and memories.we still miss you xue! and your complaining about the long practice sessions.and you and abby asking for breaks!haha.i will miss guitar.i will miss mg even more.oh well.that's just life.

and yes. thank you all who came for the farewell..im so touched you people turned up for the farewell.and to dear chirstina, i will keep the card and get my chocolate-covered cereal next valentines' day!thank you for trying tracey!hahaha.and charlene, i still remember our random meeting in acjc too! to the sec4 farewell organising comm: Thank You!even though there were awkward silences(which disturbed jadewee greatly)we really really truly appreciate the effort put into planning this farewell for us.the presents are beautiful!

Commendation Award Ceremony on 3rd September!
Do remember the following:
1. Attire
- Iron your uniforms properly especially the pleats of your pinafore
- Make sure your pinafore is of the correct length
- Pin your badge higher!
- Pull up your socks!
- Tie your hair neatly/ Pin up your fringe if necessary!

2. Collecting prizes
- Charlene will be collecting the Merit (A) prize on behalf of the ensemble. JiaQi will be collecting on behalf of all the people in the ensemble who got 2 awards. Beatrice will be collecting her 3rd award on her own cos she's the only one!
- Walk properly and remember to say 'thank you' after collecting your prizes!

3. Positioning
- The positioning will be discussed again when the sec4s join us. they'll most probably be on the 2nd row since we have to stand according to our numbers.
- If anyone is unsure of her seat number, please find JiaQi as she has the list.

4. Absentees
- All those who were absent from school due to sickness or interviews, please remember to tell the pe department so that they'll not confiscate your award/ not include you in the ceremony!

ok. so we've had some "events" happening recently.
let's go in chronological order.

1) 3rd June
we had our beginner "oreintation". i dont have the photos..can liz xu or jia qi or whoever pls post them?anyway, we had a morning of fun followed by practice in the afternoon.the games were quite fun la.i love the dough captain's ball:) maybe cos i was refereeing:Dhaha. hope you all had fun!

2) 6th June
Guitar Harmonie GENUS concert (in collaboration with JMSPGE)
quite a cool concert:) i love the pirates of the carribean piece!haha. and the smoke machine during the jap song made my eyes hurt:( haha. so here are the pics:

Ms tan, one of our teachers-in-charge is leaving our cca to go to cldds:( some other teacher who knows more about guitar will be joining us..so anyway, if my com would type in chinese, i would type a thank you letter to 老师 in chinese. since it can't, it'll just be in english then..

ok. so our fingers didnt bleed from over-practising.but they did hurt right?
anyway, it's my turn for post-syf reflections(i actually should be studying..)

for me, silver is not as disappointing as i thought it would be. it's quite awesome, really. i dont know about you, but the whole syf process/experience has been incredible. i've grown a lot(unfortunately not upwards)and im sure we all have. my brother(the sports guy) says only the losers(everyone except the champions) talk about the process, the training, the experience(cos they have no victory to celebrate about)

if you actually think about it, learning from the process and enjoying it is a victory in itself isnt it? we've learnt to tolerate people, we've learnt to love one another(including our guitars), to be more disciplined(though some of you still cant come on time) to name a few.

now let's look back on THAT day.let's see how God was faithful throughout the whole thing.
we started practising after chapel(surprisingly effecient).
had our one hour break, did our make up, practised one last time, watched jadewee's video, cleaned our guitars and got onto the bus.in between, there were tears and fears. (but the last minute practice really, really helped-remember to thank jade!youknowwhoyouare)
at rp, right before we went into the tuning room, melissa's string burst.(firstly, Thank God it burst, not break. secondly, Thank God mr lim so kindly went in with us, so that he could help melissa while mr chua sorted out last minute details. finally, thank God it didnt burst on stage)

and then it ended there.just like that.four months of practice all for 9 minutes on that very stage.
the next day, we rushed down to realise we had to wait for the harp ensembles to finish all their performances before we got our results.silver.

was it worth it?all the practices and extra practices for four whole months(ok maybe three) just to get a silver? i dont know how you would all feel, but to me, it was worth it.i didnt just learn everything i mentioned above, i learnt faith , how to rely on God.

there's this verse that goes
" 'Not by might, not by power, but by my Spirit,' says the Lord" (i cant remember the reference!)
yeah. i really learnt to trust God, to trust that He will give me what's best for me. and finally, i learnt to give thanks in all circumstances:D

let me end with what my other brother told me. he said "dont make excuses for your silver, dont say the judges were stricter this year, just take it that your are noob" ouch.

but think about this. what my brother meant(indirectly) is that we have room for improvement, and we should seize that opportunity given to us and learn from our mistakes made this year.RGS got a silver at their first syf, and the only way they've gone since then is up.we can do the same.we will.

here's a quote from my english teacher, Ms Tan Choon Gan!(ok.i think she got it from a book, play or movie, but i'll always remember her saying it best)
"the scary thing about being at the top is the only way to go from there is down"

so yes. thank God that we didnt get gold with honours, cos then we'll be stuck:)

silver's a big enough legacy for me.

abs.you'd better do better in 2011!(ok.favouritism!too bad.who asked the rest of you not to be my sister?)then i'll be jealous of you.but you know what? at the end of the day, i realised i wanted to do well more than anything for the school, the fairest in the land, our own dear MGS! so yeah.go abs and abs(yeo)-dont run off to vj!i'll kill you-and alicia and melissa and hilarie.and all the beginners(sec1and2s).do MG (and all your seniors) proud.

Thank you EVERYONE for putting in so much effort for SYF. I believe our efforts have paid off by getting a Silver award! I think this is a great start for all of us especially since this is the first time we're taking part in SYF and the first time MG Guitar Ensemble is taking part in SYF.

Today's Word

Have you heard the saying, “ What goes around comes around?” In reality, that saying is based on the principle in God’s Word of sowing and reaping. Everything you have in your life today is a result of seeds sown in your past. It is a spiritual principle that remains no matter what is going on in the natural realm. Harvest time always comes, but you have to do your part and sow good seeds in order to see a good harvest.

For years, Isaac had been praying and seeking God. He worked so hard and dug many wells in the land. When famine and desolation hit, Isaac wasn’t moved. He sowed seed even in the midst of famine and reaped a hundredfold in the same year! This is a reminder to us today, no matter what things look like in the natural realm, God’s system isn’t shaken. Maybe you’ve been working hard for the last few years, praying and believing God. Don’t be shaken by what’s happening in the world around you. Keep sowing, keep believing, keep praying because God is faithful, and He will pour out an abundant harvest of blessing in every area of your life!

A Prayer for Today

Father in heaven, thank You for Your system of sowing and reaping. I choose to stand on Your Word because You are faithful. Bless the seed I have sown so that I can continue to be a blessing to others around me. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

so anyways, i saw this on facebook, and i think it pretty fits what we're going through right now. i believe that all of us here, have put in a lot of effort for the upcoming SYF that's on monday. our hours of practicing... cancelling of the Orientation Camp just to focus on SYF and many more. and i strongly believe that in whatever we do, we will reap what we sow. for many of us, its only our 2nd, 3rd or 4th year learning the guitar. and some of us have even gone up to as high as Grade4, which is a really big accomplishment.

today's practice, whether good or not, i still want to thank all of you for coming down. despite some of you coming late/ leaving early, at least you still made the effort to come down!

the upcoming SYF 2009 is the MGS Guitar Ensemble's FIRST SYF ever.
and for many of us [sec3s and 4s], this is our FIRST and LAST SYF.

and therefore, let's do our very best on monday!
im sure God will not fail us.
cos He knows how much effort each and every one of us has put it.

hey!
yesterday we were officially one month away from syf.
(and five/six weeks away from midyears!!!!!)

about half of you leave your guitars in school on wed. if you have another guitar at home, that's fine. but for those who dont, can you please try to make the effort to bring your guitars home? if ou dont on monday, that's understandable, but if you leave it in school on wed, you will not have your guitar with you for four days!(yes.i counted!) i know some of you have to take bus back home, and it's quite inconvenient to bring your guitar with you, but for this last one month,just one month, can you please try to make the effort to bring your guitar back?
especially if you know you havent mastered certain parts in your pieces, please bring your guitar home, and PRACTICE.(i do practice, really)

it will do everyone a lot of good(and we'll probabaly end on time as well) if everyone practices.
i know you're all busy, but it's just one month..we could have become like the strings girls who have it three times a week.all im asking is for you to bring your guitar home and practice when you're free.ok?

ok.here's our performance details(in case you still don't know..)
-18 March 2009
-outside takashimaya(ngee ann city) there are posters advertising us!(they're apparently pink and purpleXP)
-we have two performances, one at 7.25pm and the other at 8pm.
-we'll be playing our syf pieces, lovebug and shepherd's dance.
im not sure what time we have to assemble in school, but we will be providing dinner for everyone.

anyway.the people who still havent paid chelsa the $9 for the holiday practice meals, please do so on monday.(assuming there are still people who havent paid.)

Lastly, that means we dont have to stay till 5.30pm, we get to go home "early!"haha.

ok.here's the bad news.
we're after schools like rgs and ri.who are quite well known for being good.and acsi.
not too bad huh?ok let's all start praying really hard for a miracle now!HAHA.

i was supposed to upload the recording of the paris song for you guys to hear, but i forgot and left it with jia qi.oops:)

alright, let's all practice hard!our songs are starting to take shape slowly, i can feel it:)
maybe you cant, TOO BAD! we need to speed up our taking shape, so please cooperate!
for example,
1) keep quiet when mr lim/chua is trying to talk to us. not just stop talking, stop playing your guitars too!
2) take the advice of the instructors seriously.
3) NO FOOD! it dirties your guitars, and it's distracting. it's also against the school rules.

sec 3s and 4s, it's our one and only chance to do something that will make our school proud, so give it your all! let's set a high standard for the next batches! (then they'll have a hard time keeping up with our awesome track record!muahaha!) and sec 2s, it's a preparation for syf 2011, so learn well. practice very hard. you're actually quite lucky to be able to take part in syf, so treasure it.

let's do this not just for ourselves, but for each other, the school, and most importantly God.

im not sure what time we have to be in school yet, but ms tan(laoshi) will be bringing us there, and we'll reach taka/ngee ann city before 6pm. and we should be done around 8plus?

attire:
-WHITE collared BLOUSE. NOT polo tee!the working type.since it's outdoors, the blouse can be short sleeved(you'll be doing yourself a favour).NOT sleeveless. you can get them at G2000? if you have a long sleeve blouse, you can roll it up. but roll it neatly.ask someone to help you.(:

-BLACK dress pants. NO JEANS. black skinnys or whatever are NOT ALLOWED.and please do not be as clever as you were two years ago when BLACK PANTS somehow meant BLUE JEANS to you. BLACK PANTS ONLY.nothing else will be accepted.

-BLACK court shoes. your shoes must be COVERED.that means your toes cannot be seen at all, unless you take out your shoes; which you shouldnt be doing halfway through a performance.
NO SNEAKERS, SANDALS whatever. just wear what you got from last year. sec2s go get them.

ULTIMATELY,
if you do not have any of the above mentioned things, GO BUY THEM. it will not be a waste of your money. you'll probably be using it at least one more time this year? and you can use it for like ushering in church or something:D either way, you will definitely find a use for it. you can rent it to your friends!haha.:) and if you're not sure if your attire is acceptable, just go check with any of the comm members.cos we're friendly and approachable!haha

hey! just a short update about what's happening..

ok. firstly, very disappointingly, we are not going to have the camp during the march holidays:( yes. very sad i know..
we shall focus more on syf. well that's exciting! (im NOT being sarcastic!) here's the good news..we'll have a camp in june instead! and it shall be organised by the sec 3s! maybe we should go to the zoo then too! haha.mr lim and his wierd ideas..

ok. next up.
in the march hols,(18 march, to be exact) we'll be performing at ngee ann city(around taka i guess)! im not very sure what we're playing..but if im not wrong, it's in the evening..and the string ensem will be playing too:)
it should be pretty cool. and we'd better not mess up! that means we gotta practise a lot harder..go us!

and finally..common tests begin tmr! so please, study hard, really hard and do well!

hi! i've been tasked to update this blog!
so you all better read it. i totally forgot abt it since the year started.sce4 man.busybusy.

anyway, kinda late for this but our CNY performance was..FUN!
actually i think the crazy games beatrice taught us(during the waiting time) were the highlight of our day, not the performance:) i cant lie, so im not gonna say it was fantastic, but it was surprisingly better than expected(our performance, that is).heehee.

oh yes. WELCOME! all our sec1s and new members! we have a record of like thirty new members this year! good job us! haha.

anyway, syf is coming up, we have new gowns! yay.i sound like a bimbo. that's not the point. but anyway, we also have an upcoming performance outside taka-takashimaya-(i think it's outside) with strings and handbellers( i think).

we're up for an exciting year ahead!arent you excited.haha.i dunno what else we'll be doing this year, but it should be good!so stay excited!

HEY!!! ok. first let me go through day 3.
i didnt do it yesterday, because i was ordered to bed at 11.and i watched the little nonya show..so..

DAY 3.
well..oh yes. i almost forgot what we did. we played the wargame which wasnt too successful..thanks la! so much for encouraging the poor dead-tired-sorethroat-me. you dudes turned it into your own personal war. one against each other, the other against the mosquitoesXD
ok. but it was ok right? except the people who put POND WATER into MY pail? gross man. what's wrong with your brains? i did say no touching the pond! your flouted the rules! nd the slope too! (i did notice most of your did go to the slope..thank God no one fell..) you guys were kind of annoying. but anyway. then we had our note-sticking time:) haha. then we met our new instructor people. mr lim again..and mr chua. welcome!

then we had our FINAL ensemble with mr choo. but we did have our own before mr choo came..haha. we were quite mad. but singing along was fun! haha. dont you just LOVE christmas? our recordings were really quite good. very surprising..maybe this means when we're really serious we can play well! or it just meant that since there were less people, the music was less messed up. i choose to believe the former:D gold with honours for syf next year? GO US!

ok. today. 4th december.
if you were here last year, you might see the significance of this date. or maybe if you heard me in the holding room:) anyway, 4th december 2007 was our very first public performance. and mr choo said we played a lot better than usual:DD so the irony is that this year, 4th december is our last public performance with mr choo.

for me at least, today felt bittersweet. oh..let me sidetrack a bit first..i just have to say the erika girl is SOOO cute! and her voice is SOOO high! ok. back to the topic. it's like i love concerts. they are just sooo fun! but today was sort of our last time seeing mr choo..so..it was kinda sad too..but it was still fun. but if you realise, this also means we have no more joint concerts with acjc!:( now that is terribly upsetting..i love the concerts at acjc most! haha. i dunno why.i was so looking forward to having lots of collaborations with them.and tpjc.and maybe sac too! mr choo, if you read this, pls invite us to their concerts to play next year ok? haha. im so thick-skinned. anyway, yeah. i guess we'll all miss mr choo. and the cut on his middle finger! :Dhahaha. for the sec threes, im sure we'll all remember the times when we laughed at least half an hour per two hour lesson.and when we put the rubber cockroach in mr choo's guitar case and he thought there was something wrong with his hair cos we kept laughing:P then i guess the rest of you will probably remember best the crazy prank call liz xu did during camp! haha.

we had loads of fun times under mr choo and loads of experiences too! like all the concerts we did this year, which is about 4? or 5? i cant remember. and how we managed to get third for the guitar competition! that was incredible. an awesome experience. looking back on the first performance at the choir concert last year, till today's performance, dont you think we've grown a lot as an ensemble? so i guess we'll say it just one more time..

and my dears, we had a wonderful year together, today being the finale of our year. i bet we'll miss each other during the remainder of our holidays, and you will all miss me terriblyXD but enjoy it still! and dont forget to do your holiday hw! and practise your guitar! HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

DAY 2.
three hours of games? we are crazy, people!but before i say anything, i must apologise to all the poor people who fell down during the spinning game! so sorry! esp alicia! hope you didnt get stupid-er(or less smart)!honestly, the last time i played it, only ONE, out of abt 20-sth to 3o people fell down. you guys need some serious balance classes. practically all of you just went right down after turning round 15 times(though i did notice some of you doing less than 15..) but we had fun right? musical chairs was probably more fun for the game masters, cos we got to choose the songs:) sorry we dont have a lot of pictures from today, cos we didnt bring cameras! how absolutely genius. oh well.. tmr then! the hide and seek game was amazing. i have no idea how you guys could take so long to find people! and we really need to practise our alhambra dears, like really practise.

finally, im very proud of our banner! we will be so awesomely cool next year at cca registration!i didnt think it could actually come out so nice!we are awesome. :D

HEY! day 1 is over. i kinda like day camps. cos you can go home and bathe and watch tv and sleep on a nice bed. but i will still try to insist we have a sleepover camp next year:) today was..welll..better than expected. the st lukes place was nice:) thought we must all agree our playing was quite messed up..:P I LOVE CHAIR-SOCCER! the ah ma was scary man..she whcked the ball sooooo hard!dangerous.but yea. it was fun. and archery was even cooler! i like it. and our dear president, jade, was awesome(at first)! haha but she lost anyway..GO LEE KHIM!you were the best man! your aiming is amazing. maybe our school should set up an archery club! haha.

hey all!(:
jiaqi here. i got a few things to update you guys with.

firstly is regarding the concerts/competitions
the 1st one, held by ACJC will be on the 10th May. Everyone is to go and the pieces played will be: [not in any particular order]
1. Una Noche
2. Sherpard's Dance
3. English Country Garden
4. Tea for Two

the 2nd concert is held by TPJC and will be on the 31st May. Only SLs will be playing but all are invited to watch. not sure of the pieces yet.

the competition will be held on 28th May. and its compulsory for everyone to play unless the sec 3s are going for the MEP camp then everyone will not be playing.
the 3 pieces are: [not in any particular order]
1. Sherpard's Dance [set piece]
2. A Journey to Spain
3. Tea for Two

next, the duty roster and ensemble rules will be posted on the notice board soon. please go and take a look at them.

lastly is regarding the orientation game. it will be held on the last two weeks of june holidays and will most probably be an overnight stay. so please inform your parents about it. date not confirmed though.

hey people. i have a zuo wen to write for tuition tmr..but im obviously procrastinating.haha. ok. anyway, we're supposed to check the noticeboard by mon to check our duty roster. ok. that's nonsense. im juat typing this cos im bored. heheh.i guess that's what they call too much time.nono.waste of time. i should be doing useful things like practising my guitar!(like my hardworking little sister who is practising now..but that's cos they have a test.HA)

all those who didnt come for today's practice have to give a PARENTS LETTER or MC to our teacher-in-charge, Ms liana(sorry if i spelt it wrongly)!

hello. i know it's kinda late..sorry! anyway, our lesson-cum ensem will be tmr, 10 march

for sec 1s and beginners, 2-3.30pm

and for everyone else, 2-6pm

extra reminder for those who ordered tuners: pls bring your 35bucks for the tuners tmr!

and i think we might be taking measurements for the gowns tmr..IF jade has called the tailor already:D

I need to make sure that all of you have the scores that were given out during the previous lessons. If you do not have any of them, please come and find me at 2O during your recess if the timing is the same as mine. Please do not find me after school as I won't be free on Thursday [CIP] and Friday [Heritage Tour].

Monday - Thursday: 11am - 11.40am
Friday: 10.20am - 11am

ok.im now the official blog keeper, in charge of keeping the blog alive(haha.help me!) here are some announcements, and the next post will be our rules(since jade hasnt sent it to me yet..)

firstly, bring $5 next week, $2 for ensemble fees, $3 for the sec 2s and 3s with the grade 2 book. and the beginner class pple just pay however much the books you have cost you(if you havent paid yet) Pass the money to our treasurer, Wan Rui

secondly, be ready to pay another $5 in the coming week/month for the guitar competition. it'll be at acjc, and we're taking part. that's all i can tell you for now.

oh yes! we'll be starting sectionals soon, your section leaders will pick a day and time slot(all after school) so please try to make yourself available for whichever day cos we really need to have sectionals.that's all! see you on tues!

Timings of Lessons in February

since the committee hasnt been annouced..
i shall be nice and help post about the change of timings for lessons next week [5th Feb]

Beginners: 2.30 - 3.30pm [as usual]
Grade 3s: 3.30 - 4.30pm [change with Grade 2s]
Grade 2s: 4.30 - 5.30pm [change with Grade 3s]
Ensemble: 5.30 - 6.30pm [as usual]

This change is due to the Leadership Training for sec 2s.
For the sec 2 girl in beginner class, you shall join the Grade 2s at 4.30pm.

**Timings of the guitar lesson on 19th Feb, 26th Feb and 4th Mar is not confirmed as the Leadership Training on those dates has been changed to GEL lessons.**

On 12th Feb, there will be Sports Day.
For those participating, you dont have to come for lessons.
